A surreal duet set in limbo, where two women suffer from eternal boredom and lack of acknowledgement. Absurd and humorous, Aftermath is an ode to pointlessness.
This dance piece is conceived as a way of relating to the idea of ‘Post-everything’ (post-feminism, post-truth, post-idealism, post-humanism) and what that means to us as individuals. In ‘an imagined world’ were the only option is to be resilient, what is our motivation for being so? Is motivation possible in a post-truth era? Emerging from an experience of motherhood and the social isolation that can come with it, Aftermath is not about motherhood, but about the sense that ‘something is over’, and the question ‘what happens then?’.
Axis is delighted to present this very special preview performance, prior to its World Premiere at Sadlers Wells in London.
Before the Aftermath
Eva will also create a new short work with Manchester Met. students to be performed at the beginning of the evening. ‘Before the Aftermath’ and ‘Aftermath’ will work as a diptych, creating two juxtaposed tableaux. In 2015 Eva made a work on Manchester Met. students called My Other Life, as part of Afterlife, a larger research project. The works you’ll see tonight are the harvest of that, three years down the line.
