100 years ago this year, in New Orleans, Nick LaRocca and his Original Dixieland Jass Band recorded the “Livery Stable Blues.” It was the first Jazz record ever produced, and arguably marked the birth of Jazz as a genre. But more than that, For the first time people heard music on vinyl that they had never heard live. Recorded music truly came of age.
Curated by Jazz musician and Senior Lecturer Dr Jose Dias and Senior Lecturer in Popular Music Dr Pete Dale, the Axis OpenSpace will host a range of musical encounters inspired by this anniversary. See the website for full details.
